Tintin Lovecraft Mashup

A friend of mine sent me a link to these beautiful designs for alternate Tintin titles. A graphic designer by the name of Muzski has added one of my favourite writers works’ to one of my favourite comic characters and created some new Tintin adventures, which – if they played out like the actual stories by H P Lovecraft – would end very badly for Tintin, Snowy and the Captain…

Intuos Pro

So being probably the last man on earth drawing artwork with a mouse, i’ve finally bought a Wacom Intuos Pro drawing tablet. I’ve been hankering for one for the past year and finally took the plunge with the large model. It arrived yesterday and I have just test drove it on this pic. The pen works perfectly with my screen and only took a short while for me to get a ‘feel’ for it. This is 1 and a half hours work. This tablet is going to speed up my workflow a lot.

William B. T. Trego

Always interested in finding new historical military artists, I came upon American William Trego. He mostly depicted scenes from the American revolution and Civil War. The paintings are excellent, and I was drawn to his drawing skill too, a snippet of which is here.

Ernst Haeckel

Stumbled upon several of Ernst Haeckels prints from his book Kunstformen der Natur (Art forms of Nature). Lovely images and  all the elements are laid out with great symmetry. Here is a selection of Cephalopods that struck me as quite Cthulu like.

100 years this year…

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the start of the Great War. The word anniversary doesn’t sit well – its a celebration of something. It’s much more worth respectfully looking back, remembering and reflecting on the enormity and tragedy of it all. I found this sketch in my old papers from the early 1990s recently. I think i’ll be sketching a fair bit of WWI stuff this year.

Victor

Finally finished Victor XL511 artwork today. Was a long intricate haul but am pleased with the end product. It’s off to the printers now, yay.

New Year

New Year, and time to finish some outstanding projects..

Recently acquired a new book, packed with lots of American advertising characters from the 1940’s onwards. Meet Mr Product is packed with lots of colourful stuff, from Tony the Tiger to early Ronald McDonald. Lots of inspiration for the creative. This is the graphic printed on hot dog wrappers from the Doggie Diner (1970)…
